A company linked to businessman Mike Chimombe is embroiled in a tender scandal over the installation of 500 streetlights in Harare. An investigation by The Herald revealed that Mr. Chimombe allegedly used a fake company and falsified documents to secure the tender.
Despite being declared unsuccessful in a council debriefing, his company was awarded the tender, prompting Donax Enterprises Private Limited to challenge the procurement proceedings.
Key issues include:
Falsified Documents: Mr. Chimombe’s company allegedly used fake documents to win the tender.
Unnotified Disqualification: Donax Enterprises claims they were not informed of their disqualification, contrary to procurement rules.
Lack of Progress: Despite receiving full payment, no concrete work has been done on the project.
Council’s Response: Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume expressed shock; “It is shocking that these guys were given the tender a long time ago, but nothing concrete has been seen after being given full payment,” he said.
Ongoing Investigation: The case is currently being handled by auditors and law enforcement authorities to investigate the irregularities.
